Choosing the color theme and template of your website may seem like a tough task unless you have some tools to help. Any designer will tell you that it helps to have an idea, or vision in your head of how you'd like the finished product to look. It also helps to take into account the nature of your wesite. For instance, you would not necessairly want a very dark theme based on black and grey if you're trying to promote something normally associated with a bright and cheery outcome, such as a wedding site or a counseling clinic site. On the other hand, black and grays might work great for a photography site, a sci-fi site or even an art showcase.
So, how exactly do you determine colors? A good start is to use a color creation tool, like the one linked HERE. Kuler also has a themes community which shares color palette schemes. Be sure to keep a notepad handy and record the HEX codes of the colors you create so that you may quickly recall them or recreate them at your site later.
